WOODSTOCK, N.Y. — A truck driver driving a tractor-trailer tanker carrying water suffered minor injuries after he lost control of his rig and it rolled over on Whittenberg Road,on Friday, Aug. 4, according to the Woodstock Fire Department.

Woodstock Fire Department Chief Kevin Peters said firefighters were called to a section of Whittenberg Road near West Ohayo Mountain Road at 2:36 p.m. He added that, upon arrival, they found that the tanker had crossed the double-yellow line, rolled over and snapped a utility pole, bringing down wires onto the road.

“Luckily there was no one coming the other way,” he said.

Peters said the driver, a man who was not identified, got out of the truck’s cab himself and walked to a Woodstock Fire Department Rescue Squad ambulance. The driver, who complained of shoulder and leg pain, was taken to the HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston with minor injuries, he added.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation called in a private spill response firm to clean up a minor fuel spill from the overturned rig, he said.

Authorities did not identify the owner of the tractor-trailer

Whittenberg Road was closed for five hours while the truck was uprighted and the utility and pole and wires were put back up, Peters said. Firefighters remained on the scene until 7:10 p.m., he said.

Firefighters were assisted on the scene by the Olive Fire Department.
